A Washington, DC, campaign named Run The Polls is literally running to all the polling stations in DC in October to mark the importance of voting
DC’s Design Community Wellness has partnered with Project Fitness, the Health Architect, and Vyper to provide entrants with the chance to win premium luxury health and wellness items as part of its Run The Polls campaign: Personal Training With Project Fitness (Free 30-Minute Workout), Reset & Recovery with The Health Architect (Personal or Group), and a Vyper Foam Roll. The winners will be announced at the Run The Polls Virtual Rally on Wed., Oct. 21. This Zoom Rally will feature guest speakers and push Get Out The Vote actions.
Design Community Wellness is an organization that defines community wellness as being beyond fitness. Community wellness impacts our social, political, financial, and healthy lives.
“One of the important things we do is to create change by increasing civic engagement in neighborhoods and across the country,” Health Architect, Chickaro Martin said. “We’re diverse personally, professionally and geographically, however we’re a like-minded group. We are focused on bringing social, political, and economic change to our country especially for people of color and people who have been marginalized.”
Martin and his Run The Polls team are running (or walking or biking) to DC’s polling stations on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays during October. The schedule and locations are posted at www.runthepolls.org. His team is also recruiting personal trainers, fitness enthusiasts and activists in battleground states to run to the polls in their neighborhoods.
“Getting out the vote is especially vital this year”, Martin said. “Design Community Wellness values social justice and civic engagement. We are calling on civic and community conscious enthusiasts to lead the pack and run the polls”.
Design Community Wellness has also been hosting weekly Zoom meetings on Wednesday evenings for several months to learn from experts and activists. Participants have joined in from across the nation. Topics have included voter suppression, the Census, gentrification, and athletes as social activists. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to receive a Zoom invitation.
